In our stride to be a responsible corporate citizen which goes beyond the traditional role of doing business, at Exide we have adopted Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as an integral part of our core organizational strategy to contribute and add value to our immediate and larger communities.
Our CSR activities revolve around the main pillars of our CSR philosophy within the
focus areas of Children & Education, Health & Sanitation, Environment, Women Empowerment and Rural/Community Development.
In response to the community needs, the CSR engagements further built on our enduring commitment to contribute towards a balanced, responsible society by supporting inclusive and long-term sustainable growth at local, regional and national levels.
Healthcare and sanitation have been our core focus areas for social investment at the national level. Our long-standing projects that have been providing sustainable healthcare benefits to numerous beneficiaries were implemented through the following -
Over the years, our teams have been relentlessly putting in their dynamic efforts to fructify the community's needs and aspirations in the sphere of education. Our main endeavor is to ensure every child in the communities neighbouring our manufacturing units has access to basic education and quality education infrastructure. This is a part of the larger objective of creating value through facilitating education in the society at large through extensive work and various collaborative projects.
Girl child and women oriented projects remains at the core of our CSR interventions as gender parity takes the front stage when it comes to making provisions for any empowerment initiatives.
Hence, this year too we were extremely contended to continue with the livelihood and entrepreneurship enhancement programme for women from the tribal villages around our plant in Maharashtra which helps to usher in economic and social empowerment for the beneficiaries.
Free School Bus Project
Availing regular and safe transportation to schools and colleges are an ordeal for most of the girl children and young women from economically challenged background irrespective of where they are located. The challenging situation is an equal reality both in remote villages as well as in the suburban areas of larger cities.
The free School Bus project was an empowerment initiative that got introduced this year to ply girl children and young women from a few neighboring villages and sub urban locations at two of our operation areas. The project recuperated regular attendance for the students and also helped to revive a School which was almost on the verge of closing down due to lack of admissions.
Along with the investment and focused team efforts, our social commitment also extends deep into our corporate culture through employee volunteering programmes which embody our special legacy of service for the greater community.
The scope of individually touching lives of the less privileged ones and contribute towards their sustainable development is wholeheartedly recognized by our employees backed by our leadership team.
We strongly resonate with what Gandhi once said "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others".
Our employee volunteers engaged in nurturing and empowerment sessions to boost up the morale of the differently abled female residents of Cheshire Home, Kolkata Unit and the girl students from our partnering Government School in south Kolkata. The engagement sessions generated heartwarming smiles along with a great sense of gratitude, inclusiveness and empowerment for all.
As a part of the Abhaar Campaign with YUVA Unstoppable, our team at the Kolkata Head Office distributed nutrition and immunity booster kits to around 6,000 frontline Covid-19 medical warriors at 10 hospitals - 8 Government and 2 Private - in Kolkata. Through this Campaign, we reached out to more than 27,000 beneficiaries.
The Abhaar Campaign YouTube Film was launched through our Employee One Engagement platform and the Campaign was extensively covered by the print and digital media.
More than 15,000 freshly cooked meals were distributed for 15 days across Kolkata amidst the 2nd wave of Covid-19 crisis in June 2021 as a part of the Exide Karuna Meals project. The Project ensured dignified employment of 20 specially abled members of the Mitti Social Initiatives Foundation.
As part of our infrastructure development initiatives at local schools, 2 tube wells were installed at Bhagwatipur and Raghunathpur Schools. Installation of 2 more tube wells is underway at Kultali and Santoshpur.
Our Ahmednagar Plant Team donated towards operations and maintenance of a 150-bedded makeshift COVID Care Centre within the MIDC premises. The Centre was built to primarily treat MIDC employees along with Exide plant employees in case of emergencies.
Our Chinchwad Plant team distributed nutrition kits to help around 1,000 labourers and their families survive through the COVID-19 crisis. The Team reached out to more than 5,000 beneficiaries through this Abhaar Campaign project.
Our Hosur Plant Team distributed Covid relief equipment and medical supplies to the Bagalur Hospital. The donation included medical trollies, monitors, hospital linen, thermometers, pulse oxymeters, bedside tables, bed pans, PPE Kits, ECG Machines, Pathology Lab equipment and more.
